The Luxury Closet welcomes the latest addition to our e-commerce glam fam,\u00a0Japanese-born American\u00a0fashion designer, Tadashi Shoji.<\/p>\n

Though you might not know the designer by name, you have most certainly seen his\u00a0designs\u00a0on just about every major red carpet. From\u00a0Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer and American First Lady Michelle Obama to Nicole Richie, Katy Perry, and Britney Spears, this man is no stranger to a celebrity clientele, but after 30 years in the industry, where did it all begin?<\/p>\n

Born in Sendai, Japan, Shoji began showing keen interest and outstanding skills in drawing and painting at a young age. Keen to nurture his talent, he moved from his city\u00a0to study fine art\u00a0in Tokyo.\u00a0After\u00a0interning for the contemporary artist\u00a0Jiro Takamatsu,\u00a0<\/i>Shoji decided to relocate again in 1973, this time\u00a0moving to the United States to study fashion design at\u00a0Los Angeles Trade Technical College.\u00a0He then went on to work as a designer for a clothing manufacturer and created his eponymous label in 1982.<\/p>\n

Shoji’s rise to fame came in the early 2000’s after debuting his collection at the 2007 New York Fashion Week. He entered the world of e-commerce five years later, in April of 2012, by launching a website\u00a0selling an edited collection of evening wear and bridal gowns. Soon after, in June of the same year, the designer was\u00a0one of 26 new members accepted into The\u00a0Council of Fashion Designers of America\u00a0(CFDA).<\/p>\n

Now, his brand is shelved in over four thousand major specialty and department stores, including\u00a0Nordstrom, Bloomingdale\u2019s, Macy\u2019s, Neiman Marcus,\u00a0<\/i>and Saks Fifth Avenue,\u00a0<\/i>in more than 39 countries.<\/p>\n
