authenticity

We know that authenticity is the essence of luxury.
That’s why with us, you can always be confident that you are purchasing a genuine luxury item.

How we Check

The in-house team of experts at The Luxury Closet is highly trained to verify the authenticity and the condition of the luxury products. They ensure that only 100% authentic items are put on sale. The evaluation process is unique with its own mix of assessment criteria and differs according to the category. Each item is evaluated based on the following combination of hallmarks, hardware, stitching, symmetry, material, craftsmanship, stamping, codes, hologram stickers, and packaging. Our authenticators also check if the items have been modified or amended (e.g., aftermarket diamonds, replaced batteries, repaired bags, etc.)

Here are some of the important areas of our authentication process:

Be an Authenticator

Luxe brands use the highest quality of materials available and employ the most refined method of workmanship. This explains why counterfeit items cannot match the standards of genuine luxury products. Inspection of small details can clearly classify the difference between a genuine and a counterfeit product. Here are some tips to check for authenticity:

Stitching and Symmetry

Luxury pieces are crafted with perfection to the last stitch. If you come across uneven stitching, it is probably a fake. The brand logo and the lettering should always be in symmetry. Even though the outside of the bag might look perfectly done, you should look for clues inside.

Date Codes

Most products from luxury brands have unique manufacturing batch numbers. Always compare the format of the date and the font. For example, Gucci bags have a particular font, and Chanel bags have a unique serial number for every bag with the first two digits signifying the year of manufacture (eg.13XXXXXX).

image

Logo

All luxury brands have a specific format and font in which their logo is designed. The logo and embossing on the product can be easily cross-checked from the brand’s website. For example, check for the font on the inside of Jimmy Choo bags or for the missing MADE IN ITALY stamp right below the logo plate.

Embossing

Each brand has a unique way of embossing and lettering on the bags. For example, the Gucci Guccissima leather is embossed with the GG logo and the Louis Vuitton Vernis leather is embossed with their monogram. Fake bags are usually over embossed, with much darker/deeper lettering.

Zippers

If you look at the zippers, you will often find names like Lampo or Riri. These are the high-end zipper brands that luxury bag manufacturers use. For example, Dior and Balenciaga use Lampo, and Marc Jacobs uses both Lampo and Riri, while YSL has been using their own branded zippers.

Screws

Louis Vuitton uses eight 6-head screws in their bag, while Chanel uses flat heads (though some older bags have Phillip screws). Most other brands are less consistent with their type of screws, but a simple check of the quality of the screws can determine if the bag is a replica.
