There’s a new Burberry bag in town! Meet the Olympia — a structured shoulder bag wrapped in a cloak of femininity, representing a beautiful amalgamation of modern and classic.
It was first introduced in Burberry’s Fall/Winter 2020 show and then again in a lovely campaign, released in May 2021 featuring Kendall Jenner, FKA Twigs, and Shygirl. Olympia is a covetable bag with a streamlined silhouette that elegantly taps on the ongoing trend of mini bags and baguettes.
“When designing the Olympia, I was thinking about creating the perfect form of a handbag – something that could capture the essence of femininity.”
-Riccardo Tisci
Designed by creative director Riccardo Tisci, Olympia is inspired by the impressive architecture of Kensington Olympia, London. It was also the venue of the show in which the bag made its debut. The understated yet luxe design of the Burberry Olympia bag exudes confidence and high style with its unique crescent shape. Each Olympia bag is handcrafted in Italy on a wooden block to achieve that perfect curve. Furthermore, it is engineered to be carried over the shoulder using the strap. While its feminine shape evokes a playful appeal, its minimalist finish offers a sophisticated edge.
The Burberry Olympia bag comes in three primary sizes: mini, small, and medium. In addition, it is available in pretty hues: beige, black, burgundy, blue, green, and some checked models.
Editor’s Pick: Limited Edition Burberry Olympia bag in Marsh Green
The Burberry Olympia bag has every trait of being the next It bag, and the brand knows it. Subsequently, to celebrate the exquisite design and craftsmanship of the bag, the brand has introduced a series of pop-ups across the globe called the World of Olympia. These super creative pop-ups give customers an augmented reality experience. It enables them to see statues of ancient Greek Gods come alive and create bags. It’s a maneuver to represent the modern classicism of the Olympia bag.
And along with this enhanced experience, the pop-ups also house a collection of special edition Olympia bags in some lovely colorways. One among them is today’s pick for Bag of the Week — The Burberry Olympia bag in marsh green, piece number 224 in a limited edition of 250 bags.
Chic allure and subtle details characterize this Burberry Olympia bag. Well-rounded lines spotlighted by the crescent moon-shaped bottom give this shoulder bag an adorable and dainty look. It is carefully rendered in smooth French leather with hand-painted edges and a foldover flap secured by a magnetic fastener. It is supported by polished gold-tone hardware that also complements the bag’s pleasing green hue. While the front is minimally designed with a zip pocket and the Burberry moniker, the back is utilitarian with a handy slip pocket. The functionality of the bag extends to its interior. It is furnished with a card slot and two slip pockets, in addition to a generous main compartment. There are two ways to wear it — over the shoulder or across the body as the strap is adjustable.
Burberry is known and loved for its iconic checks. However, today along with the checks, the brand has also started experimenting with other forms of monograms. As a result, the latest handbag offerings from the house like the TB bag, Lola, the pocket bag, and Olympia are all decorated with discreet and fresh branding. And we find this approach quite ingenious and visionary.
