Big News in the Luxury Fashion World!
We were very sad to hear of the news that shocked the fashion world this past week: Frida Giannini, Gucci’s designer for the past 10 years, will be leaving the Italian brand after her next women’s wear show in February for the Autumn-Winter 2015-16 collection.
From introducing the Flora pattern to reinterpreting the iconic Horsebit Moccasin to becoming the Men’s collection designer since 2006, Frida Giannini transformed the brand. She took charge of Gucci’s advertising campaigns, opened the Gucci Museo in Florence, and introduced Chime for Change, an international program to raise funds and awareness for projects promoting education, health, and justice for girls and women, featuring Beyonce as a co-founder. Needless to say, she added her own signature to the Italian House of Couture and will be truly missed.
In honor of her work, I decided to focus this week’s pick on an iconic bag that Frida remastered in 2009 with a big impact: the Jackie.
Named after Jackie Kennedy-Onassis, it was the first lady’s favorite, carrying it at many official and casual occasions.
When Frida reintroduced the Jackie, the face of the campaign played a huge part in promoting the bag. She picked none other than the fashion legend, Kate Moss, to model the bag and give it a new look. Since then, the Jackie became one of the top signature bags of the House.
Personally, I find the Jackie a classic that was beautifully transformed with a modern twist. Whether you like the original and timeless look or the new fierce and delightful designs, it’s all available at The Luxury Closet! Check out our selection below:
