Before Spring/Summer 2011 (pictured right), Valentino had been searching for its accessories identity for seasons. It’s then newly appointed creative directors, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, were still trying to find their groove. And although studs have adorned clothes since we can remember, somehow this Italian fashion house managed to rocket it into super-sartorial-stardom. So much so, they’ve surpassed “trend” and now seem like they’re headed toward “classic” and “signature”.
Four years on, studs are used in many different ways, mostly in a small, decorative capacity as a part of larger, more ladylike designs. Case in point? The Vava Voom collection. If you doubted that pink leopard print with studs could work, Valentino begs to differ.
